Sex Offenders in The American Society.
A sex offender is a person who has committed the crime
of employing physical strength or influence so as to obligate others
to engage in sexual intercourse or any sexual activity (that includes
oral sex, anal sex, masturbation, genital fondling or any sexual content
that is not consensual between those involved). As the figure of the
sex offender turns out to be usual to some degree, it's increasingly
more difficult to fight this problem and prevent our peers and relatives
(particularly children) from being exposed to such offender. More alarming
is to see those figures that in the majority of cases come to show the
sex offender as the victim's acquaintance or even close related.
As the sex offender represents a particular danger even
after being released from the law enforcement institution he was being
committed to, some countries have established a public sex offender
registration. In the USA, the public sex offender registration is a
list available either on the internet or local police offices with the
names of each and every person in the state classified as sex offender,
no matter whether still in jail or released. When a name is included
on the sex offender registration, depending on the seriousness of the
crime, he stays registered for life and the person's "profile"
is required to be updated at least once a year. The person is also obligated
to report to the authorities due to any address or job changes. Every
state is required to have its own registration, following a law called
the Megan's Law, passed in 1996.
This extreme measure that it's being followed by other
places in the world, does not aim to expose nor discriminate the person
classified as a sex offender, but to encourage people to be aware of
the danger this kind of offender represents.
